    Geography

    Aim

At St Barnabas, we believe that Geography gives children essential knowledge and skills which enable them to better understand the world around them and their place within it.

We believe that a high-quality Geography education should:

Ensure that children have a secure knowledge of the location and characteristics of places that they encounter as part of the wider curriculum.

Encourage children to think of themselves as ‘Geographers.’ It should enable children to be confident in finding out information and exploring more about the world in which they live.

Inspire children to find out more about the world and how they fit into it. Also to think about what they can do to ensure the sustainability of the natural world.

    Locational Knowledge Year Group Progression

At St Barnabas we want all children to be able to name, locate and identify certain key places in the world and importantly to retain that knowledge as they move through the school. We want to make sure children know key locational knowledge that links to subjects taught in our wider curriculum. This helps to make that learning more meaningful and rich. It also helps to embed the learning and to create those vital links in their general knowledge.
